Meet Julian, aka petriachor, a mixed-game specialist from Royan, France with a deep appreciation for the limit streets. A math, physics, and chemistry tutor by trade, Julian approaches poker with a thoughtful, disciplined style rooted in psychology and constant adjustment.
Drawn to mixed games early on, he’s especially at home in formats like 2-7 Triple Draw, where patience and precision shine. Focused, respectful, and always learning, Julian embodies the kind of player that makes the Phenom tables better.
The Q&A below gives you a closer look at his poker journey and what drives him at the tables.
Julian “petriachor”

What do you specialize in: Mixed Games (mostly limit games).
Occupation: Math/Physics/Chemistry Tutor.
City residing in: Royan, France
Tell us about your Family: 18 months happily married.
Pets: An old cat named Donatello.
How long have you been playing poker: First played in high school with friends for fun but started playing online in December 2015.
What drew you to poker: Originally the psychology, reading people, only later did I discover the mathematical depth of the game and the endless adjustments you can make to your different opponents. My interest for Mixed Games came from the Victor Saumont documentary Nosebleed about Alex Luneau and Seb Sabic.
Favorite poker game: 2-7 Triple Draw.
Favorite starting hand: A23 in Razz even though a King and a couple Jacks are quick to come by.
Live or online: Online, very limited live experience but hoping to get more in the future.
Favorite poker room: Where I have played the most online is the French room Winamax, I was very happy when they added some mixed games in November 2016.
Poker Pro you admire most: Benny Glaser.
Biggest poker win: Online Mini WSOP 2017 on Winamax Stud Hi Lo Championship for €1700 after deal heads up.
Best poker experience: That summer of 2017, final tabling Mini WSOP events in all 3 stud games available on Winamax, I had just started learning Mixed Games the winter before and it felt like the work I had put in was paying off.
Poker pet peeve: When people berate other players for playing poorly, antagonizing the fish is the worst thing a poker player can do.
If you could sit down with any 5 people to play poker with, who would you pick: Phil Ivey, Phil Hellmuth, Phil Galfond, Philip Sternheimer and Phillip Hui. Lots of poker wisdom all around and a whole bunch of Phils!
Phenom Nemesis (all in fun): catdog from the UK who outlasted me in heads-up for the first Fun Fridays title which would have been my biggest win on Phenom.
What brought you to Phenom: A friend had started playing on it earlier this year and told me Phenom was going to start testing MTTs in June, since I’m more of a tournament than cash game player it was the perfect opportunity to get started.
Hobbies outside of poker: Watch baseball and rugby, play board games.
Favorite sports teams: Boston Red Sox.
Favorite types of music and bands to listen to: Love classical music, a Schubert symphony or Beethoven piano sonata goes well with grinding at the tables.
Favorite TV show: The West Wing, The Newsroom, Breaking Bad, Andor.
Favorite meal: Taboulé with roasted chicken.
What are you usually doing when playing online: I like to just focus, watch out for other players’ tendencies and take notes, but I will put on some music in the background.
Any final words: Thank you for this initiative. Can’t wait to read about other players.
